incoming nerd alert

I’m almost certain my interest in science as a whole stemmed from my experience with the Pokemon games as a little kid.  I would ask my dad things about the mechanics of the game, like why grass is super effective against rock/ground.  And he’d spin up some story with just a dash of scientific base to it—“tree roots are big and break through cement.” He was puzzled for an instant when I told him ice loses to fire, because the “ice should melt and put out the fire.” I guess STAB Flamethrower Charizard was too strong.  All the numbers…levels, stats, PP, Pokedex count…all in a fun game.  Pretty sure all the dialogue improved my literacy because I actually was interested in reading what was on the screen.

I guess this post has shifted into a sincere thanks to Game Freak for entertaining me since 1998—to this day, I’m playing Pokemon Black on and off, and plan on completing it when I finish this academic year.  But more importantly, I guess I owe the Pokemon series gratitude for planting the (leech?) seed of interest of the sciences at an early age.

Because…here I am now in chemical engineering. It’s a shame it’s not quite as riveting as fighting the Elite 4 for the seventieth time.

math test: a farmer plants 7 crops of tomatoes and 3 crops of carrots what is the probablity his moms name is leslie
history test: the american civil war ended in 1865, explain how this had a defining role in the extinction of dinosaurs
literature test: explain what the author meant by, "the apple was as red as an apple"
physics tests: The aliens ate 3.4 doughnuts. Their crumbs fell to the Earth because of gravity. Calculate how many penguins are eating pancakes at the speed of light.

"The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing."

unknowns

My brain has a bad habit of bringing up faces of people in dreams that I wish were part of my real life, yet I do not know who they are.  Who…and where…are you?
